PHILOSOPHY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING

To produce accounting graduates that posses adequate technical and theoretical knowledge to function in all areas of economy, excel in postgraduate and professional studies relevant and adequate to develop entrepreneural spirit of employers rather than employees and be relevant in their immediate and international environment.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING

The Department of Accounting, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, offers a programme of courses leading award of a B.Sc. degree with honours of as a pass degree.
The Objectives of the B.Sc. (Accounting) degree programme include the following:
i. Preparing students for careers in the public and private sectors;
ii. Providing a strong academic background for research and post-graduate studies.
iii. Preparing students for the acquisition of necessary professional competence that is required by national and international Accounting Bodies.
In achieving the objectives above, the Department places much emphasis on quantitative approach to financial statement’ analysis and managerial decision making. Students in the department will be exposed to all of Accounting including Financial, Managerial, auditing and public Sector.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR FULL-TIME STUDY
FOUR YEAR DEGREE PROGRAMME

a. Candidates must have five “O” Level Credits in GCE or SSCE or NECO at not more than two sittings in subjects which must include English Language and Mathematics.
The remaining three subjects must be from Economic, Geography, Commerce, government and Accounting & Book-Keeping.

b. Candidates must take English language, Mathematics and two other subjects from Economics, Geography, Commerce, Government, accounts & Book-Keeping at UME (JAMB)

THREE YEAR DEGREE PROGRAMME
In addition to the requirements in (a) above, candidates must have at least one of the following:
a. Pass in at least two subject in HSC or GCE “A” Level. (The grade point to be determined by the Department from time to time).
b. OND in Accounting or Financial Studies or Business Studies of approved Polytechnic or Colleges of Technology with at least Upper Credit.
c. ICAN ATS (Final Level)
d. Foundation pass of recognized professional bodies such as ICAN, ACCA, CIMA, CIBN, CIA, CIS, NIMARK, ACEA, CITN.
e. Diploma in Business Administration of the Olabisi Onabanjo University. Lower Credit may be accepted.
f. Diploma certificates from any other approved programmes from the Social & Management sciences (Particularly Accounting, Business Administration, Economics and Banking & Finance) of the Olabisi Onabanjo University. Lower Credit may be accepted.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR PART-TIME STUDY

a. 5 years Degr4ee Programme
Candidate must have five “O” level credit in SSCE or GCE at not more than two sittings in subjects which must include English Language and Mathematics.

b. 4 years Degree Programme
In addition to the requirements in (a) above, candidates must have any of the following:

i. Good passes in at least subject in GCE “A” level or HSC

ii. OND (Accounting) or Financial/Business Studies, with at least
lower credit pass.

iii. ICAN ATS (Final Part)

iv. Foundation pass in recognized professional bodies such as ICAN,
CIMA, ACCA, CIBN, CIS, CIA etc.

v. At least ten years working experience in accounting related fields.
